Can I still get a Greek Golden Visa even if I was denied a Schengen visa?

About five years ago, I was denied a Schengen based on financial reasons (lack of means of sustenance). However, I have since done well for myself and want to invest in Greece. Will I face any difficulty because of my past denial? Why or why not?

As per previous cases, my understanding is that a refusal of a Schengen visa will take six months to be overwritten. Therefore, as you have already been denied the Schengen five years ago, you should have no problems at all re-applying for one. In addition, pursuant to the real estate investment you make, you are eligible for an EU residency permit under the Greek Golden Visa program. This is superseding any Schengen-related difficulties you had in the past.

Following the provided information and because a period of at least three months has passed after the related denial, you should not have any problem with your visa application. In your case, as you have already been denied the Schengen five years ago, you should have no problems at all re-applying for a new one. Furthermore, provided that you are eligible for Golden Visa acquisition under the conditions required by the law in force, the Schengen visa denial in the past does not affect your application at all.

On March 22, 2019 Savvas Orphanos answered:

You will not face any difficulty to get the Greek Golden Visa because of your past denial of a Schengen visa. The acquisition of the Schengen visa is not a prerequisite for the acquisition of the Greek Golden Visa. Furthermore, the Greek migration code does not include any such reason for the denial of the acquisition of the Greek Golden Visa. Consequently, if the financial and all the other requirements are met, you will not face any problem at all for the acquisition of the Greek Golden Visa.

On May 26, 2020 Alexander Varnavas answered:

The fact that you have been denied this type of visa in the past is not directly connected with the Greek Golden Visa program. However, you will still need to have a valid Schengen Visa (Type C) or National Visa (Type D) at the time you will enter Greece to submit your application for the Golden Visa.
