How can I open a bank account in Greece remotely for my Golden Visa application?

Due to the pandemic-related travel restrictions, it is difficult and risky for me to go to Greece to implement the property purchase plan for my Golden Visa application. I was wondering if I could open an account at the HSBC Greece Branch remotely in my home country and use it for payment associated with the investment. Could this prove the source of the funds? Will they obtain the tax number for me?

You can open an account in HSBC Greece if you are already a client of HSBC abroad. To obtain a Greek tax ID, you should authorize a lawyer with a power of attorney to do it on behalf of you, since you are not in Greece.

As far as the source of the funds you could use an account at a bank in your home country but for the rest of the steps of the application you have to find someone to represent you in Greece.

According to a new voted legal amendment on the terms and conditions for remote electronic identification of individual persons, when entering into a business relationship with credit institutions and financial organizations supervised by the Bank of Greece, it is feasible to open a bank account in Greece remotely. Of course, the implementation involves bureaucratic processes and takes time. In the meantime, the investor's application procedure is proceeded through a specific Power of Attorney addressed to a Greek consultant or lawyer. It can be signed abroad, either in a Greek consulate or in front of a local notary and be apostilled. The PoA gives your attorney the right to apply for a Greek Tax Identification Number and open a Greek bank account on your behalf. The proposed process through HSBC could also work, but the Bank does not issue a Greek Tax Identification Number.
