How can I apply for the UK’s Tier 2 Visa with a history of immigration offense?

I overstayed my visa in the UK for 5 years and returned to my home country Nigeria in 2012. It has already been more than 9 years since I left. Now my partner wants to apply for the Tier 2 visa. Am I eligible to apply with my partner, as a dependent on her Tier 2 visa application? Does my immigration history pose a threat to our new application, even after more than 9 years have passed?
