How can I get a Portuguese Golden Visa for my children only?

My wife and I are retired and have no plans of relocating, but we want our children (15 and 17) to have residency (and eventually citizenship) in Europe. Can we apply for a Portuguese Golden Visa on their behalf, as in, buy property under their names so they can obtain residency? Will it cause a problem that the funds we will be using is not their own but their parents’? Will we have to be part of the application as well since they’re minors?

It is possible for you to apply for Portuguese Golden Visa on your children’s behalf, as long as the property is bought under their names. The fact that the funds you will be using are not their own does not jeopardize the application, as long as the bank accounts where they are received are opened under the children’s names. However, both children would have to apply under different investments, as the Golden Visa program rules do not allow for the family regrouping of siblings. As such, each of your children would have to apply under independent applications, based on different investments. Also, as they are minors, as holders of the parental responsibilities, you and your wife would have to be the ones signing every necessary document for the applications to be submitted. These include the necessary power of attorneys, bank documents for opening their accounts and even the necessary forms in order to submit their applications, which have to be signed at SEF’s facilities upon their biometrics appointments.
