What are the language proficiency requirements for investors looking to get Panamanian citizenship?

Are investors required to pass a test in Spanish? Would I need to give a language test if I just go for permanent residency instead of citizenship?

In order to apply for Panamanian citizenship, one must be fluent in Spanish, given that a written test on history, geography and other subjects is part of the process. However, as an investor you may achieve a resident status without any need to pass a test in Spanish.

Permanent residency does not require any test, although permanent residency is a preliminary requirement to qualify to apply for citizenship, which does require to do a basic test on Spanish proficiency and general knowledge of Panama history, for which a manual to study is available.
