What happens to the residency status of foreigners who stay in Cyprus for more than 7 years?

Can foreigners become eligible for citizenship after staying the country legally for seven years? Or the option to gain citizenship for foreigners is now no longer on the cards, no matter how long one stays?

Yes, this kind option is still valid where foreign nationals who have completed seven years of legal residence in Cyprus can file an application to obtain citizenship. For foreigners who either have parents or children who are Cypriot citizens, then the time required is five years rather than seven.

To be eligible for citizenship based on the years one is a resident in Cyprus, you will need to prove that you have resided for seven years prior to the date of submitting the application, plus an additional period of 12 months of continuous residence in Cyprus preceding the date of the application.
