What is the process of applying for citizenship as a permanent resident in Turkey?

I understand that my 20-hyear-old son will not get Turkish citizenship when I participate in the CBI program. I was told that he can get a resident permit first and then apply for citizenship after certain years. What is the process?

If the conditions are available according to the law, it is possible to apply for a short-term residence permit or others. If there is no special case, only a short term residence permit can be obtained at the beginning. Depending on the condition of five years uninterrupted residing in Turkey right back the date of application; citizenship applications can be made.

It is true that your son cannot be included in your citizenship application due to his age. He can apply for a tourism residence permit for one year. After one year he can apply for a family residence permit and renew it in two years. Once he resides in Turkey for five years he can start his application for Turkish citizenship.

Acquiring Turkish citizenship through the CBI program confers to only those who match the requirements set forth in the law. Applicants' spouses and descendants benefit from the program indirectly. Therefore, the applicant who wishes to acquire Turkish citizenship by investment and his/her spouse and his/her children that are under 18 will obtain Turkish citizenship without any further processing. That's why adult children can not benefit from CBI program with their parents. Obtaining a short term residency is set forth in Turkish Law. According to the provisions, no more than two years of residency is provided to an applicant if the requirements, such as educational, commercial, touristic or health reasons, are matched with the law. Acquiring the citizenship via this way is only possible if the time period of residency exceeds five years.

Application for citizenship based on continuous residence is possible only after residing in Turkey legally for five years. Although your son may obtain a temporary residence permit for one year without any specific purposes other than touristic ones, however, renewal for five years will be quite difficult and other solutions shall be considered.

There are different types of residence permits and only a couple of them allow the applicants to apply for citizenship. The immigration office doesn't accept the days that the applicants stay with the temporary types of residencies. They only accept the permanent residencies which you can get through property investment. There is no certain amount for investment. You can buy property any amount you want under your son's name and he can get a two-year residency for each term and he can renew his residency every two years after that. Then he may apply for citizenship if he stays in Turkey for five years continuously.

Your understanding is correct. Your children below 18 years old will not be able to acquire citizenship through your application. After five years, without interruption, of having a resident permit, then you will be entitled to apply for citizenship.
