What types of global income can I use to qualify for the elective residence visa in Italy?

Would I be eligible if I work as a digital nomad and generate a global income that meets the yearly thresholds of 31,000 per year? What if all my income is generated via my investment in global stocks, or rents from my commercial properties in my home country?

The types of global income you can use to qualify for the Elective Residence Visa in Italy must be related to Italy. For the visa to be granted, you would have to pay taxes on the income in Italy, no matter if your clients are non-Italian, provided your headquarters are based here. A global income that meets the yearly thresholds of 31,000 euros per year would not be considered sufficient. If all your income is generated via investment in global stocks, or rents from your commercial properties in your home country, you could incur double taxation at home and in Italy.

Please note that the Elective Residence Visa does not allow one to work and consulates are pointing out that remote/smart working is also not allowed.
