How could a past visa denial impact my ability to obtain Vanuatu citizenship?

I want to apply for Vanuatu’s CBI program. I know that Vanuatu passport holders can enjoy visa-free travel to many areas, including Schengen countries and the U.K. I was denied a tourist visa to the U.K. two years ago. I am wondering if this could impact my application. Should I submit a statement with my application, explaining the reason for that past visa denial?

The refusal of a tourist visa to the U.K. does not directly impact your Vanuatu application, as the government conducts its own due-diligence checks. If your name is listed on a database for some reason, then you might be flagged. If you could let us know the reason for the past visa denial, then at least we are informed.

Vanuatu takes special care to screen citizenship applicants. If someone had a previous visa refusal in a country where Vanuatu citizens can travel freely, then a special check is made. The prospective applicant will be required to provide a detailed explanation about the refusal. On the other hand, such a previous visa problem does not mean an automatic refusal of the citizenship application.
