Do I have to appoint a legal representative for my Portuguese Golden Visa application?

I want to participate in the Golden Visa program. I have a legal background, so I want to handle the application process by myself. I want to know if it is required to hire a local legal representative for this program.

It is not mandatory to appoint a legal representative or lawyer for the application to the ARI/Golden Visa program. However, since most of the documents and legal processes must be in the Portuguese language, in addition to the fact that all the relations with SEF – Immigration Borders Service are in Portuguese and under the terms of the Portuguese law, we strongly advise appointing a Portuguese lawyer to take care and support the process. Furthermore, to answer any possible questions or notice from Portuguese public authorities, it is important to have a suitable knowledge of Portuguese administrative law.

It is not imperative to hire a legal representative to apply for the Golden Visa in Portugal. However, the procedure and bureaucracy in Portugal is very complex so only professionals with Portuguese experience can overcome all obstacles and pitfalls.
