Does my Portuguese Golden Visa give me the eligibility to work in Portugal?

I want to invest in the real estate market in Portugal and apply for a Golden Visa. If I plan to settle down in Portugal with this type of visa, am I eligible to work? Do I need to apply for a work permit separately?

There is no need for separate work visa from a Golden Visa. For the program, the beneficiary of a Golden Visa can: enter Portugal with exemption of residence visa; reside and work in Portugal, at least to remain in Portugal for a period of not less than seven days in the first year and not less than 14 days in the subsequent years; circulate through the Schengen Area, without visa requirements; benefit from family reunification; request the granting of a permanent residence authorization; and request the acquisition of Portuguese nationality by naturalization, fulfilling the other requirements required by the nationality law.

In answer to your question, yes, this is a viable option. This criterion is objective. Therefore, when acquiring a property worth 500,000 euros or more, you will be able to apply for the Golden Visa, which authorizes you to work in Portugal. The Golden Visa in a temporary resident permit. As such, it gives the same rights as any standard resident permit. This means that the holder of a Golden Visa can work, live and study in Portugal, and can also use it as a Schengen Visa to travel around Schengen Area for 90 days. In fact, the Portuguese law expressly states that without prejudice to the application of special provisions and other rights provided for by law or by an international convention to which Portugal is a party, the holder of a resident permit is entitled, without the need for special authorization regarding his or her foreign status, in particular: education and training; to exercise a subordinate professional activity; to exercise an independent professional activity; access to health care; and access to law and the courts. In addition, provisions ensuring equal treatment of foreign nationals, including social security, tax benefits, trade union membership, recognition of diplomas, certificates and other professional qualifications or access to goods and services, shall be guaranteed.
