How can I enroll my children in an international school in Cyprus?

I am preparing my application for the citizenship-by-investment program in Cyprus. However, to avoid any delay in my son’s education, I want to enroll him in an international school before I submit the application. Is this possible? What types of visa does he need to apply for?

In order to be able to enroll your children in a Cyprus school, either private or public, you need to have some kind of residency that you are entitled to stay in Cyprus. For instance, a Schengen visa or some other kinds of visas that would allow you a stay only for 90 days. If you are not passing those days before you submit your application, you can get your residence permit within one to two weeks, then this would work.

You may enroll your children in an international school in Cyprus. If your children are minors, a parent or guardian will need to remain with them. The day you file your citizenship application you will obtain residency in Cyprus so your family can remain on the basis of citizenship.

The citizenship-by-investment program supposes that you first apply for EU permanent residency. When you apply for residency, you must include your son in your application forms so that residency is also obtained for him. Then you just show your permits to the school.

An application for citizenship-by-investment in Cyprus requires the applicant to hold a residence permit on the basis of Regulation 6(2) of the Aliens and Immigration Law, for a period of at least 6 months. The application for residence permit may be submitted simultaneously with the application for naturalization. However, given the fact that you wish to enroll your son to an international school prior to submitting the citizenship application, you may consider filing an application for residency in Cyprus prior to filing an application for citizenship. Formally speaking, provided that the relevant requirements are met, a residency permit will be issued within two or three months from the time of submission in which case you will gain the right to register your son to the school of your choice. As noted, proof of residency for at least six months is a prerequisite for succeeding in a citizenship-by-investment application that takes normally 12 months to be processed.

Since you will be applying for citizenship by investment, you will be applying as well as for residency which makes it possible for you to make all the arrangements you will need for your children regarding enrollment in School. The residency will be issued within one week after you apply for citizenship by investment.
