What are the Australian visa options for investors who are above 45 years?

I've heard that most Australian visas are unavailable to folks who are 45 years and above. Is this true even when applying for Business Innovation Stream visas, talent visas etc.?

Most employment/professional related skilled permanent residence visas for Australia are limited to main applicants under 45 years of age. There are some exceptions such as a high salary employee under the subclass 482 (temporary) to subclass 186 (permanent) transition scheme. The global talent visa is an exception as there is no age limit (although additional criteria applies to applicants who are 55 years or older). For investors, there are two pathways: the subclass 188 Investor with an investment requirement of 2.5 million Australian dollars has a normal age limit of under 55 for the main applicant, but this can be waived with support from the nominating state or territory government (some regions are more receptive than others); typically with an increased investment amount, and the subclass 188 Significant Investor visa has no age limit but requires AU$5,000,000 to be invested.

Investors who are interested in applying for Australian permanent residence may consider the 188B Visa, Investor stream, which requires a 2.5 million Australian dollars investment, with an age limit of 55 years. Note that there is a points test associated with this visa application, which awards points for investor experience, age, English ability, qualifications, financial assets and other factors. Therefore, an Investor who is 45-54 years would score 15 points. Alternatively, an investor may consider the 188C Visa, Significant Investor stream, which requires an investment of AU$5 million for four years, and has no age limit, No points test, and no business experience or educational qualifications are required.

The general age limit for the Business Innovation stream subclass 188 visa is 55. However, if you are older, a state or territory might invite you to apply for this visa if your business will be of exceptional economic benefit. There is no age limit for the Significant Investor Stream visa. Also, you can be of any age to apply for the Global Talent Visa. If you are under 18 years, or are 55 years or older when you apply for Global Talent Visa, you must bring exceptional benefit to the Australian community.

The age limit for skilled visas is 45, but the age limit for the Business and Investment 188 visas is 55. The exception to this is the Significant Investor (or 188C) visa which has no age limit. For investors and potential business owners who are aged over 55, some states will offer state nomination if the investment is of exceptional benefit to the state. This generally means making a larger investment than is usually required for the grant of the visa. Global Talent 858 visas also have no age limit, but if you are 55 years or older when you apply you must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.
