What is the process of getting a work permit as a Golden Visa holder in Greece?

Although I have received Greek permanent resident status through the Golden Visa program, I still want to be able to work in Greece. What are the procedures of applying for a working permit? Do I need to find an employer who is willing to sponsor me first?

In the case of a permanent resident permit for property owners, the property investor does not have access to any type of employment. However, employment, according to the law, does not include the exercise of economic activity in the capacity of a shareholder, a chief executive officer or a board member. So the property investor can exercise an economic activity in the capacity of a shareholder, a chief executive officer or a board member in an existing business only. If you are interested in a work permit, this is another type of resident permit and you have to resign from the existing one.

Through the Golden Visa, you can be a shareholder but not the manager in a company.

As a holder of a Golden Visa, only the exercise of a financial activity as a company's shareholder, a member of the board of directors or as a CEO of a company is permitted. However, if you need to work as a dependent worker, an employer will indeed have to sponsor you and he will have to apply to your consulate services. The detailed procedure is the following: An entry visa for dependent work may be issued after having a request of the employer concerned and, assuming the cost of the mission, been sent to the diplomatic or consular authority by the aliens and immigration department of the decentralized administration by courier. Note: The relevant act of the secretary general of the decentralized administration approving employment for the provision of dependent employment to a particular employer is issued under the joint ministerial decision in force every two years in accordance with Article 11 of Law 4251/144 and determines the maximum number of places for dependent work to be granted to third-country nationals per region and occupation. A certified copy of a valid employment contract for at least one year in Greece, with the authenticity of the signature of the employer by a public service showing that interested employee's remuneration is at least equal to the monthly salary of the unskilled laborer as defined by the National General Collective Labor Agreement as well as his period of employment (or, in lack of contract, an affidavit of the employer, with the authenticity of his signature certified by a public service, stating that the employee's remuneration is at least equal to the monthly earnings of the unskilled worker as defined by the National General Collective Labor Agreement as well as the duration of his employment). Interested parties must be present in person at the above service in order to sign the relevant employment contract.
