What rights do my dependent get if I hold an 888 visa in Australia?

If my dependents get 888 permanent visas with me, what rights do they enjoy in terms of health care, education and working? Can I enroll my family to some public health care programs? Can my children get the same tuition rates as residents? Can they work without employers’ sponsorship?

If you achieve 888 visa and included your dependents in the final visa, then they would also received 888 visa grants. You are able to check this against their passports. Local social benefits and tuition rates depend on the current intake policies set by each institution and/or authority. Work rights will be unlimited on any permanent resident visa, to which 888 is one of them.

Yes, the minute you become permanent residents, you and your family enjoy public healthcare benefits, free education in public schools and local tuition rates in private schools/universities just like local residents. However, they will not be eligible for the government Fee-help or HECS for tertiary programs as these privileges are only for citizens. They can also work without the employer's sponsorship. Like you, they will also enjoy multiple travel rights for 5 years subject to renewal of your resident return visa (RRV) thereafter.

Secondary applicants who are granted an 888 visa will be permanent residents. This will entitle them to have access to Medicare, full work rights and domestic tuition fees. They may not be eligible for some scholarships until they are Australian citizens.
