How much do I have to rent property for in order to have residency in Monaco?

Do I have to keep it for as long as I have the residency - can I sublet it?

There is no specific minimum requirement in terms of value of the property you need to rent to apply for a residency in Monaco. However, the property you rent needs to make sense with your application. If you are a single applicant, a studio can be considered as acceptable. On the other hand, if you are moving with a partner or a family, you will need to have a bigger apartment to accommodate the needs of the family (for example at least a two bedroom if you have one child or two young children). With regard to your other questions, you cannot sublet your property. Monaco requires all its residents to have their own property to live in as well as having significant presence in the country. Therefore, the property you use as your address is solely for your personal use and is directly connected to your residency. You are obviously more than welcome to purchase a property that you rent to someone else, but you will still need to have at least one apartment for your sole use.

The rental contract should be for at least one year. You have to have accommodation in Monaco to retain your resident's permit. You cannot sublet if you want to use the accommodation as the basis for your residence. The accommodation must be of a size appropriate to the number of persons occupying it.
