Can I participate in Malta’s global residence program by purchasing a superyacht?

Instead of investing 220,000 to 250,000 euros in the real estate market, I would like to purchase a superyacht in Malta. Does this type of property qualify for Malta’s global residence program?

You need to rent a property at any cost for the residency stage and for a minimum of 12,000/16,000 euros, or buy a property with a minimum value of 350,000/280,000 euros per year for the next five years. You cannot use a superyacht on an application.

In order to qualify for the Maltese Global Residence Program, the beneficiary must hold a qualifying property holding. Unfortunately, a superyacht is not considered a qualifying property for the satisfaction of the requirements of the Global Residence Program, as qualifying property is defined by law as “any immovable property situated in Malta or Gozo." A prospective applicant has the option to either purchase immovable property in Malta for 275,000 or 220,000 (for property situated in the south of Malta and Gozo) or lease immovable property with a minimum annual rent of 9,600 or 8,750 (for property situated in the south of Malta and Gozo).
