How can I qualify for the new Italian work visa for certain countries?

Both my parents are Argentine citizens who have spent most of their adult lives in Chile, where they married and I was born. They are both of Italian descent, with their grandparents having migrated from Sicily. What steps can I take to qualify under the new decree that allows foreign nationals with Italian ancestry from Argentina to obtain work permits outside the standard quota system?

The introduction of a visa and work permit for Italian descendants into Italian immigration law has been approved; the procedural aspects are still being decided, and it is not yet possible to apply. An implementation decree must be approved by the Government, and at that point, details on the visa application process and requirements will be disclosed.

The new law restricts eligibility to two generations. You can derive citizenship only from your parents or grandparents (under certain conditions) and no longer from great-grandparents. However, the new law and its retroactive application are being challenged before the Constitutional Court, which could reopen the possibility of applying for citizenship if the law is declared unconstitutional. A Court hearing is scheduled in March, and a decision is expected after the summer.
