Can I hire a management company to manage my business for the Portuguese Golden Visa program?

I want to apply for a Golden Visa by establishing a business in Lisbon. I am worried that as a foreign investor, it might be hard for me to run a business successfully in Portugal during the first several years. Is it permitted to hire a management company to help me run the business? How involved do I need to be?

To open and develop a business in Portugal, it is highly recommended that you hire an experienced and competent administrator already accustomed to dealing with the Portuguese market and also with public administrative entities. This is allowed to foreign businessmen even with the Golden Visa. In the internal rules of your business, the obligations and limits of the administrator will be established, as well as the reports that the administrator will have to send to you to control the business and the goals to be achieved.

Regarding your specific question, there is no prohibition to hire a management company to help run the business. In fact, one of the benefits of the Golden Visa holder is the short length of time periods you must stay in Portuguese territory. During the first year of your Golden Visa/residency title, you only need to spend seven days in Portuguese territory. After one year, you must renew the Golden Visa for a period of two years, in which you need to spend 14 days in Portuguese territory, and renew it once more for another period of two years. Please note that you must be present at your renewal appointments in other to collect your biometrics data.
