Does Turkey allow the dependents of a deceased investor to retain their residencies and citizenships obtained via investment?

Would the dependents be able to continue to live in Turkey even if the main applicant dies shortly after gaining permanent residency? What additional criteria would have to be met, if any, in such a scenario?

In this case, the dependents would retain their citizenship. We have actually had such a case, and all dependents remained Turkish citizens, and there were no additional specifications required.

Although Turkey allows the descendants of the citizenship candidate to keep their temporary (no permanent residency is issued for CBI) residence permits, if already issued and until they expire, the citizenship application is terminated due to death of the applicant.

If the applicant passes away after the application, the dependents can file a petition that says they want to continue the process and they could get citizenship.

In Turkish Immigration law, “dependents” will be regarded as “apart from the main applicant, rest of the people included to application, e.g. wife, husband, kids under 18 (minors)” Citizenship and residency are two different concepts. Before acquiring the Turkish citizenship via investment, it is up to an applicant to apply for residency since it is not obligatory to apply for residence permit. Within the context of residency, if the main applicant has already obtained residency, in other words, if the main applicant has already finalized their application and also for their family, and not long after their application has been accepted, the main applicant passed away, then residency permits will be available as long as the main applicant’s resident permit is valid. For example, if the main applicant’s residency was valid for 18 months, the dependents' residencies will be valid for the 18 months too after the main applicant becomes deceased. If the main applicant’s residency was for a long period, then the dependents' residencies will last a maximum of three years. Apart from that, dependents can apply for any other residency permits as long as they meet the criteria. On the other hand, in case the main applicant is deceased while the application for the residency is still in progress, then the rest of the people included in the application, e.g., the wife, husband, kids under 18 (minors), should submit the death certificate of the main applicant to the immigration authority; it is at their discretion to determine whether the dependents can have the residency. Immigration authority may even might request for more documents. About the citizenship, once the main applicant has acquired Turkish citizenship, the rest of the people included in application, such as the wife, husband, kids under 18 (minors) can retain their citizenships, of course. In case their application was in progress at the time the main applicant became deceased, it is at the civil registry office’s discretion to decide whether the application will be accepted since this situation is not specified in related regulations directly.
