There are different types of long term residency options available. You can either apply for: a Vanuatu passport through the Development Support Program; a remote worker visa if you intend to work from Vanuatu (but not in Vanuatu); s self-funded visa if you intend to retire in Vanuatu; an investor visa if you intend to create your local company; a land owner visa if you intend to purchase a property in Vanuatu and retire. There are no restrictions on foreigners buying properties in Vanuatu. The main guidelines for the acquisition is as follow: execution of a sale and purchase agreement; obtaining the consents to transfer of the lessors; payment of all fees (Lands Department, Vanuatu Financial Services Commission, Custom Land Owners etc.) There is no freehold land in Vanuatu. All properties are registered as leasehold titles for either 50 or 75 years. All leases started on the day of Independence on the July 30, 1980 and can be renewed before expiry. Land in Vanuatu falls into two main categories: custom land owned by its indigenous custom owners; and public land vested in the government. All urban land is public land; all rural land is custom land. The status of peri-urban land varies.
