How can digital nomads obtain residency in Cyprus?

I am interested in spending a couple of years in Cyprus while I work remotely for a U.S. company, without having to go for a more permanent residence. I can prove sufficient income to support myself during this time, but am not planning to make a large investment at this stage. Does Cyprus offer a digital nomad visa? What are my options?

Yes, Cyprus provides a program for digital nomads. We have assisted numerous clients in issuing the digital nomads visa permit. The applicant must show a salary of min. Eur3,500 per month.

Your options are: (1) Visitor Visa - Temporary residence permits. This is for any non-EU citizen who wishes to reside in Cyprus long-term without taking up employment he/she may apply for a temporary visitor permit. This permit is usually issued for a period of 1 year and it can be renewed. You need to rent or buy a property in Cyprus. Open a bank account in a Cyprus Bank institution and deposit €15.000 to prove decent living in Cyprus without having to engage in any business. The money must be transferred from abroad and their origin must be shown. You cannot engage in any employment but you can be a shareholder in a company to receive dividends and also be appointed as a director but without any salary. In relation to this option please note that foreign nationals who have completed five years of legal residence in Cyprus have the right to obtain long-term residence permit of around 5 years and if completed seven years of legal residence in Cyprus they have the right to obtain the Cyprus citizenship. (2) Digital Nomad Visa. This is for non-EU or non-EEA nationals who can perform work remotely through telecommunications technology; are employed in a company registered abroad, for which they can work location-independently, or are self-employed offering services remotely for clients located abroad; can prove that they have stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3500 (after the deduction of contributions and taxes). It comes with the right of residence for a year in Cyprus, with a possibility of renewal for further two years as well as right of residence for family members, for the same period as the Digital Nomad, without the right to be employed or perform economic activity in Cyprus.
