Points are awarded on the Business Points Test for the following: age, English ability, qualifications, financial assets, current business turnover, and business experience among others. Contact a registered migration agent to get an accurate estimate of your points score.

The points for investor stream visa for Australia are allocated for age, English language ability, educational qualifications, business experience, net personal and business assets, business turnover, and special endorsement by State or Territory for the proposed business plan. If you can provide evidence of ‘proficient English’ by scoring 7 bands in IELTS or equal score in other English test, you will be able to claim 10 points. If you have a bachelor's degree, you can claim another 10 points. If your business plan gets special endorsement from the nominating state or territory in Australia, you can claim further 10 points. If the net business and personal assets of you and your partner combined in each of the preceding 2 fiscal years of at least $2.25 million, you can claim 35 points. If you had an ownership interest in one or more main businesses that had an annual turnover in at least 2 of the 4 fiscal years immediately before the time of invitation to apply for the visa, you can claim 35 points. If immediately before the time of application, you held eligible investments of at least AUD100,000 held for not less than 7 years before the time of invitation to apply for the visa, you can claim 15 points.

Most applicants have no problem hitting the 65 points through age, financial/investment assets, turnover, English, education level, business achievements, etc. For the investment stream, your age and business, investment or financial background will determine the number of points you can achieve. If you are falling short of points, you can determine which area you can improve on in the shortest possible time to increase your points. One of them is to take an English test in IELTS or PTE to see if you can fetch higher points. For advice on the 188 Skillselect points awarding system, contact a migration professional to guide you in evaluating the points accurately so that you do not overscore or underscore yourself.

The short answer is to check the requirements for each item that you can claim points for to ensure you meet the requirements. It is important to pay attention to specific details, and it is strongly recommended you use the services of a registered migration agent to avoid any mistakes. The longer, and more important response, is that the current year program (July 2022 to June 2023) is no longer available for new applications as the available places for new state/territory nominations (the necessary first step) have been fully used. The program is under review, which initial recommendations expected sometime in February and implemented from July 2023. This means that the business and investment program is likely to change significantly, so you'll need to understand what these new requirements are before considering any future application.
