How can I obtain residency in Malaysia through PVIP without offshore income?

I’m planning to move to Malaysia to launch a business with a partner. I will apply for the PVIP to make it easier. But I was hoping to seek employment in Malaysia’s tech sector while we get our business off the ground, and the visa requires offshore income – how can I work around that?

At present, participating in PVIP (Premium Visa Programme) is the most flexible and direct way to obtain employment eligibility in Malaysia. PVIP participants will automatically be eligible to seek employment without any restrictions. In comparison, the Employment Pass for a foreign individual has to be applied for and tied to a particular employer. This means that you would have to gain local employment first before relocating to Malaysia, and you are only allowed to work for that company. In addition, the Employment Pass only has a validity of 2 years, and it would have to be renewed by the employer. In your case, where you are planning to launch a business here in Malaysia, it would be advisable for you to go down the PVIP route, as it would be challenging for a new business / new company to meet the requirements for applying for Employment Passes. With regard to your question about meeting the offshore income requirements, it would be best if you could set up a consultation meeting with an immigration professional, as this does vary based on each individual's circumstances.
