How can I participate in the CBI program of Cyprus if I am already a permanent resident?

I became a permanent resident of Cyprus two years ago through its RBI program. I really like this country and want to obtain citizenship. At this stage, can I transfer my RBI application to a CBI application? What are the procedures? How long do you think it will take?

Since you are already a holder of a permanent residency permit in Cyprus you can apply for CIP when you meet the investment criteria. Your application will be faster since you already have PR. It will take approximately four months from the date you submit your application.

Yes, you can apply for naturalization if you top up your investment as per relevant requirements. Your RBI investment can be utilized if you apply for naturalization within three years from the investment.

If you have bought property toward your permanent residency then you may take this forward toward your citizenship if this did not pass the three-year threshold. Please note that you still need to comply with the Cyprus Investment Program categories and criteria in order to apply. Otherwise, you will need to remain in the country of more than seven years in order to apply for citizenship.

The procedure is similar to the visa requirement since you already have permanent residency. You will now have to fulfill the remaining criteria set out by the CBI program. A petition takes up to six months to be examined.
