How can I secure a nomination by an Australian state for my startup to qualify for the Business Innovation and Investment visa?

What should go in my business plan? Is there a certain format for it?

Unfortunately there isn't a current quota released for the Business Innovation and investment visa in Australia. It may be a momentary standstill at the moment until such time that the government decides on announcing any further quota for this visa. The state you choose to invest in needs to approve your business plan before you can proceed further on your visa application. For future reference, if you would like to be advised on this pathway and be successfully nominated, you need to know which state you are intending to settle in and look at their policy on preferred business types before you plan anything. As each state has their own preferred type of businesses and specified size of investment to nominate you for a 188 visa, it is best to wait for their latest announcements. For any further changes or developments on the latest for this visa program, you are advised to stay in touch and consult with an Australian migration professional in the business/investment visa program.

Unfortunately this is no longer possible. The states and territories have been internally advised by the Australian government that there are no nomination places available for this program. The current view is that there is likely to be an investment and an entrepreneur pathway in late 2024. It is very unlikely there will be a business owner pathway as in the recent review of the program, this was flagged as providing the least value to Australia of all the streams. As an alternative, it can be possible to use an overseas business to sponsor a person to go to Australia to establish a business in Australia under a work visa, and then apply for permanent residency after 3 years (this is being reduced to 2 years from late 2023).
