How does Panama’s bank deposit pathway work for residency by investment?

I want to explore the deposit option of the residency program. Do I have to keep the deposit for the whole five years or will any parts of it be available to spend before that? Also at the end of the period do I get the deposit back + interest or how does it work?

Panama´s RBI programs with bank deposits allow you to collect the interest monthly, quarterly or yearly as agreed with the bank, and the full amount can only be withdrawn after the completion of the required period for the fixed term deposit. Residency options with bank deposits are the Qualified Investor Visa ($750K), Economic Solvency Visa ($300K), and Friendly Nations Visa ($200K).

You can keep a deposit of US$300,000 for 3 years and obtain permanent residency in 2 years. A provisional residency of 2 years will be provided. The fast track options require US$750,000 deposit for 5 years and guarantees residency in 30 days without coming to Panama. Interest rates are around 5%.

There are various investment opportunities linked to bank deposits in Panama. For those eligible for residency through the Friendly Nations program, an investment of USD 200,000 for a minimum of three years is required. This initial investment results in a two-year permit, with the potential to upgrade to permanent residency. If one does not belong to the nationalities covered by the Friendly Nations program, an investment of USD 300,000 for a minimum of three years is an alternative. Similar to the previous option, this investment initially grants a two-year permit, with the option to later transition to permanent residency. Another pathway is the Qualified Investors Residency program, necessitating a USD 750,000 investment for at least five years. This unique option offers the advantage of immediate permanent residency status, achievable through a single application processed in under 30 days, and the added convenience of filing the residency application remotely. In all cases, the full required minimum amounts must be deposited as a Certificate of Deposit (CD) or certified deposit in a Panamanian bank for the specified duration. Investors retain the flexibility to decide whether to withdraw interests at any point or allow them to accumulate alongside the invested capital, available for withdrawal at the conclusion of the time deposit.
