What is the current state of Australia’s Investor Stream 88 visa?

Can I still get Australian residency with a A$2.5 investment through the Investor Stream 88 visa? Or is it not an option anymore? There is so much unclarity about it. Where can I find the most updated info?

Subclass 188 Investor Stream requires you to invest AUD2.5 million that meets certain requirements. The visa is currently available and is expected to have changes implemented in July 2023. Importantly, you need to be nominated by a State or Territory government agency in Australia to be able to apply for this visa. Each State or Territory government agency in Australia has a limitation on the number of visas they can nominate each financial year. Therefore you need to contact the relevant State or Territory government agency in Australia to understand the availability of nomination for a Subclass188 Investor Stream visa.

Yes, the 188B Investor stream is still open and accepting applications, provided that you meet the eligibility criteria, points test and invest $2.5 million AUD in complying funds. But, initially, you will get a provisional visa, and after you have provided evidence of maintaining the investment for 4 years, you will be able to apply for the Subclass 888B Visa for Permanent Residence of Australia.

The 188 visa category has not changed, and the 188B Investor stream is still available. The business migration program is currently under review, and there may be changes implemented in the new program year which commences in July. But until new legislation is released around any changes the old rules continue to apply. It is best to get your application lodged as soon as possible before any changes take effect, which may mean that this pathway is no longer available.
