Which new professions can get a visa in Australia to help with the country’s Covid-19 recovery?

Can I as a nurse move to Australia to help? Does the quarantine period still apply? How much does the visa cost?

The Australian government announced a Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL). The occupations on this list are given an automatic travel exemption if the applicant has a job offer in a critical skill area. The 17 occupations (ANZSCO code) are: Chief Executive or Managing Director (111111), Construction Project Manager (133111), Mechanical Engineer (233512), General Practitioner (253111), Resident Medical Officer (253112), Psychiatrist (253411), Medical Practitioner nec (253999), Midwife (254111), Registered Nurse (Aged Care) (254412), Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency) (254415), Registered Nurse (Medical) (254418), Registered Nurse (Mental Health) (254422), Registered Nurse (Perioperative) (254423), Registered Nurses nec (254499), Developer Programmer (261312), Software Engineer (261313), Maintenance Planner (312911). You will still be required to quarantine for a period of 14 days at your port of arrival at your own cost, currently approximately 3,000 Australian dollars. This will cost more if you bring a partner and children. As a registered nurse, you should apply for nursing registration through AHPRA first. If eligible, your registration will be finalised when you arrive in Australia and present your identification documents. You will require registration before you can commence employment, and preliminary registration as supporting evidence for your travel exemption. The cost of the visa will vary according to whether it is a temporary or permanent visa, but most employers will trial an overseas worker on a Temporary Skills Shortage 482 visa first. This visa costs AUD 2,645. Other costs will include police checks, registration and any agent fees.

Yes quarantine applies but you will need to have a job to go to. The visa application costs depend on whether it is a temporary residency or permanent.
