What are considered acceptable investments under New Zealand's Investor visa stream?

Does it have to be investments in new residential property developments? Can it be in established properties like a hotel? What are my other investment options?

Acceptable investments for New Zealand Investor visas are investments that are able to make a commercial return, or have the potential to contribute to New Zealand's economy and must not be for an investor’s personal use. A commercial property is an acceptable investment if the property is not residential, or for domestic use; it is used for business purposes, and is capable of a commercial return.  Since a hotel is used for business purposes and provides commercial return, it will be an acceptable investment.

Hotels are commercial properties so it would be considered as acceptable investments.

Basically, a residential property cannot be invested into unless it’s a new development. On the other hand, any commercial property, such as hotels, motels are considered acceptable investments. There are many other options as well.
