What requirements do I need to fulfill in terms of health insurance as a Cyprus CBI applicant?

After becoming a citizen of Cyprus through its citizenship-by-investment program, do I need to purchase any type of health insurance for me and my family to keep our status? What are some detailed requirements on the insurance we purchase?

The CBI program does not require the applicant to have health insurance in place in order to be able to apply. Even if you obtain citizenship, there is still no obligation to purchase health insurance.

The subscription to health insurance is a condition to acquiring Cyprus permanent residence (CPR), which itself is a prerequisite and part of the Cyprus Investment Program (CIP) citizenship procedure. As a condition of CPR, the applicant must have health insurance that also covers repatriation costs in case of fatal events. He shall also have to pay social insurance as well as including the National Health Insurance System.

If you are working in Cyprus and you are paying social insurance, you will be obliged to contribute to the national health service. If you are not working you are not eligible to access the national health service and you will need to proceed with purchasing private health insurance.

As a CBI applicant, you can have health insurance with any insurance company of your choice so long as the policy covers Cyprus as a jurisdiction and so long as the policy covers for a body repatriation in case of death. Moreover, after you become a Cypriot citizen, you may enroll in the GESY, which is the universal health insurance system of Cyprus.
