How can I apply for Portugal’s programs with two documents in which my mother’s name don’t match?

My mother’s name on my passport is wrong; the one on my birth certificate is correct. While applying for Portugal’s programs, they will be asking for both documents. Will this discrepancy cause a problem? What should I do?

You will only need to provide your birth certificate when you are applying for a visa/residence permit as your mother's son/daughter. Other than that, it is not necessary. However, this could be an issue if both documents are required for your visa application. In that situation, it is crucial to assess the level of discrepancy. Only if the names are significantly different will it pose a real problem for you.

In case of family reunification of an ascendant, yes, it will be necessary to submit the birth certificate. The name of the ascendant on the main applicant's passport is not relevant, however, as a precaution, a statement should be obtained from the relevant authority in the country of origin attesting that it is the same person, regardless of whether the name appears different due to an error.

The Portugal Golden Visa program, also known as the residence permit for investment activity (ARI), is a residency by investment scheme designed for non-EU citizens. The main applicant does not need to present his/her birth certificate, only the passport, so there will no problem regarding that matter.
