What are the restrictions of renovating properties purchased for my Golden Visa application in Portugal?

I purchased an old house located in Lisbon’s old town district and would like to renovate it. The seller once told me that this house was of historic significance. What should I do before I start the renovation to make sure I will not violate any relevant policies? Could any violations impact my Golden Visa status?

There are several specific rules regarding the rehabilitation of buildings in historic areas of the city. It is not possible to give you this information without analyzing the case in particular. It is important for you to know, that in addition to the rules regarding works on the property, you can also benefit from state support and tax exemptions.

There are no restrictions on renovating properties purchased in the Golden Visa program. In a house with the historic significance, you need to obtain a license from the city council.
