What impact could CFIUS have on deals?

We know that the Trump administration has blocked a deal involving a Portland semiconductor company even though it was only the fourth time in 25 years that a president has used the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to block a deal. What is the likelihood that more deals will be blocked with CFIUS? What types of deals are more likely than others to draw extra scrutiny?

There are about 19 deals blocked by CFIUS, from July 2015 to March 2018, with more happening in 2017 and 2018. The industry spans across semiconductor, entertainment, finance, energy, mapping, internet, hotel, manufacturing, food processing, cars and communications. Six deals are in the semiconductor industry. We do foresee additional deals being blocked. It is hard to say a particular industry, but high tech could be a focus.
