What kind of documentation is needed to obtain Greek permanent residency as a Golden Visa holder?
I bought a home in Thessaloniki a year ago and enjoy living here. I am looking to work here eventually, though. Can I obtain permanent residency to begin working here legally? What is needed to acquire it?

In order to obtain a Golden Visa license you will need to buy or have bought a property of at least 250,000 euros. Regarding permanent residency, this is not given easily and without many years of living in Greece before applying for it alongside other circumstances, such as marriage. Even with that, most of the time it is difficult to obtain permanent residency, so I suggest you look into the Golden Visa license.

As a holder of the investor permanent resident permit title, the property investor does not have access to any type of employment. However, according to the law, employment does not include the exercise of economic activity in the capacity of a shareholder, a chief executive officer or a board member in an existing company. Perhaps you could explore the above option for exercise of economic activity. The employment in Greece of third-country citizens is subject to restrictions and upon receipt of a prior approval. Furthermore, if you apply for a work permit under the provisions of immigrant law, you will lose your existing resident permit, since everyone has to keep one kind of resident permit. The process can be easier if you are appointed as the director of the Greek subsidiary or branch of a foreign company, or you may be hired as special purpose employee due to high skills required for the specific job and the potential employer's lack of local resources in the particular field. There are also special rules for those assigned by foreign companies to work in Greece for a specific period of time on a project and for employees of certain industry sectors or companies of special operation regimes.

According to the pertinent provisions of Greek law, the documents that you need is the sales contract, a proof of registration of the contract and a certificate of non-pending claims by the competent land registry, a health insurance policy, a resident permit electronic fee, four recent color photographs and a ertified copy of a valid passport. Given that you are a Golden Visa holder, it means that you have already submitted these documents. However, please note that the resident permit does not give right to access to any type of employment. However, there is an exception to the above rule, and you can legally work here in the capacity of a shareholder, or board member or chief executive officer of companies established before your application for this resident permit.
