What kind of management position can qualify for a Japanese investor visa for residency?

I am the chief financial officer for a small company that only has about five employees, four of whom are based in the United States. I want to establish an office in Japan for our many Japanese clients. Is my company too small for me to qualify for Japanese permanent residency or does the company have to be a larger, multinational corporation?

When you invest 5 million yen to register a company and rent an office space in Japan, you can apply for a business manager status. Initially, only a one-year period will be granted due to the size of the company. You can extend this status every year if the performance of the company is not bad. After 10 years, you may be able to apply for PR status.

To obtain an investor visa in Japan, you must meet the following conditions: ownership of a business established in Japan with a minimum capital of 5 million yen (about $46,000 U.S. dollars; existence of office premises in Japan whether by ownership or by lease. Renewal of the investor visa will depend on the sound maintenance of your business in Japan. Permanent resident status is granted on an individual basis. Continuous residency in Japan for 10 years will qualify you for permanent resident status.
