What are the military service requirements for a person who obtains Cyprus citizenship by descent but does not reside there?

I have dual nationality British/Cypriot. I have always lived in the UK. My son, who has a British passport, is applying for dual nationality in Cyprus, too. He lives in the UK. Would he be obligated to serve in the Cyprus army once his Cypriot passport comes through?

All those who are not Cypriot citizens but are of Cypriot descent (even if they had not acquired Cypriot citizenship), were born in 1960 or after, and reside in the Republic are obliged to do military service. If the intention is not to reside in Cyprus then no military service will be required, provided that upon approval of your Cyprus citizenship application, you apply for an exit permit and certificate of permanent residence in a foreign country.
