How can I apply for Portugal’s golden visa without traveling there?

I’m unable to travel and want to know if it’s possible to complete the residency application process remotely or through a legal representative.

Yes. Under Law 23/2007, Decree-Law 63/2015, and the Code of Administrative Procedure (arts. 7–8), a legal representative with power of attorney can handle every step of the Golden Visa process remotely — from NIF, bank account, investment, to submitting all required documents (ID, proof of investment, criminal records, etc.). This framework lets investors fully advance their application in compliance with Portuguese law, saving time and resources. The only step requiring personal presence is the biometric enrollment with AIMA to issue the residence card.

To apply for the Golden Visa, you do not need to be physically present in Portugal, as the application is submitted through an online platform. However, for the granting of the residence permit, AIMA will schedule an in-person appointment to collect biometric data. At that point, you will need to travel to Portugal to attend the appointment with AIMA.

Yes. It is possible to apply for Golden Visa without coming to Portugal. The diligences can be done with the applicant abroad and the local support of a lawyer.
