However, if one applies for the UK’s Tier 1 Investor Visa program and then maintains residency in the country for five years then the applicant subsequently qualifies for citizenship, and that too without making any further investment.

What are the requirements for residency by investment in the UK?

Applicants needs to show proof they have at least 2 million British pounds to make investments in the UK via share capital, or loan capital in active and trading UK registered companies. All such investments would need to be made within three months of arrival in the country. The funds invested must be obtained legally and extensive proof of funds is part of the application process. A clean criminal record from every country where the investors have lived for more than 12 months is also required.

How long does it take to get citizenship by investment in the UK?

It depends on the amount of money the applicant invests when they apply for the UK’s Tier 1 Investor Visa program. But this residency period requirement can be shortened considerably if the applicant pays 3 to 8 million pounds more.

British passport-holders can stay up to 90 days in the EU within a 6-months period.

British citizenship once given to an applicant is usually for life. However, there are cases when British citizens involved in serious crimes such as terrorism had their citizenship revoked.
